Frank Jordan

Frank's preparation for his record breaking swims as a 16 year old can be traced to his outstanding belt swims for Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club. From 1945 to 1953 he would win eight successively with one third place. In 1952 he was selected to represent Australia at the Olympic Games in Helsinki and at 19 years of age he would be the youngest member of Australia's Water Polo team.

Beginnings

Frank resided in Northam Avenue, Bankstown and attended Homebush Boys High with Don Talbot. He was a member of the Bankstown Swimming Club. He was the Swimming Champion in the state for 800m (880 yds) and mile swimming from 1949-51. In 1950 Frank would smash the 200M (220yds) Freestyle Record for the Western Districts which had stood for 19 years. Frank became instrumental in establishing the Cronulla Water Polo Club which was formed in 1964 as the St George and Sutherland Shire Amateur Water Polo Club.

Achievements

Frank gained Olympic representation through Balmain Water Polo Club as Bankstown did not field 1st Grade Teams. Financial assistance was required at that time to send our athletes overseas and the Bankstown Swimming Club Fund for Frank reached £550.

Post Representation

Frank was a Member of the Surf Life Saving Board of Examiners. Outside of the water he was the principal of the Sydney Teachers College and went on to become a successful swimming coach.
