Outdoor street trading

Expressions of interest are now open for the Street Parklet Program

Footways are an integral part of the City environment and commercial uses allowed on the footway have a direct impact on the vitality and safety of the City.

The footway environment plays a key role in how easily someone can navigate a city and use its amenities and also allows for social interaction. Street trading can also contribute to the economic vitality of local businesses.

Footways are shared public spaces and should be treated with care and respect. Ensuring safety, easy pedestrian access, and clear lines of sight is important for creating a welcoming and accessible space for everyone.

To further support our local businesses and provide more amenities for residents and visitors, we have created the Street Parklet Program. This program enables businesses to extend their trading to carpark spaces, offering businesses the opportunity to create inviting outdoor dining areas.
Street Parklet Program

The Street Parklet Program aims to transform our streets into vibrant, community-centric spaces. With a focus on enhancing outdoor dining experiences, supporting local businesses and fostering economic growth, the initiative seeks to extend trading spaces to allow for greater patronage, increase customer dwell times and increase business profitability. The extension of business trading will mean that some kerbside parking spaces will be affected and each proposed parklet will undergo community consultation to gauge support for the proposed change.
