Noel's chosen sport of Surf Life Saving would see him achieve state representation in 1959 at the age of 22. In that year he reached the pinnacle of success by becoming the Australian Senior Surf Belt Champion and delivered the first gold medal for Wanda Surf Club.

Beginnings
Noel would come to the district by 1949 and he would reside in Shenton Avenue, Bankstown. During the season, he would travel the 50 kilometres return trip to Wanda Surf Club each weekend.
Achievements
Noel was a member of the State Surf Team during 1959-60, 61-62, 62-63. In the 1959-1960 season he became the Australian Senior Surf Belt Champion. This was the first Australian Gold medal for the Wanda Surf Club.
Post Representation
Noel would be rewarded with life Memberships in two Surf Life Saving Clubs having been elected to the Wanda Club in 1966 and the Thirroul Club in 1986.
