Mayoral Message | Children's Week

I’m delighted to invite families across our City to celebrate Children’s Week, a time to celebrate and recognise the rights, voices and unique contributions of our youngest residents.

16 Oct 2025

We encourage our children to get involved and have their say with initiatives like our Kids Crew and Children’s Summit.

But we can’t forget that for kids to learn and thrive, having fun also matters.

While the school holidays may be over, we’ve still got plenty of opportunities for children to play, connect and explore, with a fantastic range of FREE events and activities across the City from 18-26 October.

From Movies Under the Stars, featuring The Wild Robot and Wonka, to the action-packed Kids Play Day at the Morris Iemma Indoor Sport Centre, disc golf (frisbee golf) sessions and Belmore Youth and Resource Centre youth drop-in space, there’s something for children and teens alike.

Our libraries will also host preschool story times in a variety of languages, celebrating the diversity of our local families.

These events are about more than just fun, they reflect our City’s strong commitment to being a Child Safe Organisation and delivering on our Child-Friendly City Action Plan.

We want every child to feel safe, supported and empowered to thrive.

As a parent and community member, I know how important it is to create spaces where children feel welcome, valued and heard.

I encourage all families to get involved, meet others and enjoy everything Children’s Week has to offer.
