Luke first competed in international race-walking in 1994, coming 24th in the 10km World Junior Championships.
Beginnings
Luke was born in Tanzania where his parents worked as a medical missionaries in Africa before they moved to Australia. In school he would always participate in running, jumping and walking activities where his coach said he had talent and should focus on it and he never looked back. He first competed in an international race in 1994, coming 24th in the 10km World Junior Championships for race walking.
Achievements
Luke represented Australia at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002, competing in the 20km walk. In 2006 he competed in the 20km walk at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne where he won a silver medal, and again in the 20km walk at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi in 2010. In the 2004 Athens Olympics he came sixth in the 20km walk. In 2008 in Beijing, he competed in the 20km and the 50km walk. In the World Championships at Paris 2003, he did the 50km walk where he came fifth. In the 2005 World Championships he did the 20km walk in Finland and again in 2007 at the World Championships in Osaka. In the 2009 World Championships Adams did the 20km and 50km walk in Berlin where he placed fifth. In the 2011 World Championships in Daegu Luke did the 50km walk where he placed fourth. Luke also competed in the Australian Champion 20km walk from 2004-2006 and 2008-2013.

Luke is still competing and just missed out on a spot for the 2024 Olympics.
