John Rhodes

In 1979 John became the Australian Tae Kwon Do Champion in the Heavyweight Division and kept this title until 1984. He was selected to represent Australia from 1979 in the Asean Games, Hong Kong.

Beginnings

John lived in the district firstly in Bromley Avenue, Greenacre and then in Winifred Street, Condell Park. He was a member of Bankstown Tae Kwon Do Centre. He was the NSW Champion from 1977 1988.

Achievements

John qualified to present Australia in the 1988 Olympics Games as the Tae Kwon Do was nominated as the official Olympic Demonstration Sport. However, it was decided through the Korean Body that only lightweight divisions would be competing in the games. John being a heavyweight was therefore unable to attend.

Post Representation

From 1983 to 1988 John was the NSW coach and in 1988 was selected to represent the NSW Police at the International Law Enforcement Olympics, Sydney.
