George Silis

In 1953 George began playing Volleyball in Australia and by 1961 was considered the best all round Volleyball Player in NSW.

George also assisted in the development of volleyball at district, state and national level. His credits include international tournaments administration, selection, coaching, playing and his greatest interest of school volleyball development.

Beginnings

George lived in the district after arriving in Australia in 1951. He resided in Hood Street, Yagoona from 1964 and first played at a sports field in Revesby for the Olympia Latvian Volleyball Club located in Bankstown.

Achievements

George was selected to represent Australia from 1962 to 1970 and represented NSW at the Australian Championships between 1962 - 1971. He was made a life member of the NSW Volleyball Association in 1964.

Post Representation

In retirement George was elected President of NSW Volleyball from 1971 1976. He was also Vice President of the Australian Volleyball Association, a delegate for Volleyball on NSW Olympic Council, Director of Coaching NSW Volleyball Association and a liaison Officer with NSW High Schools.
