Gary Baker

As a a speed roller skater Gary would reach national level by 1987 winning a Silver medal in the 500m outdoor. He would become the Australian Champion and race over 300m to 10,000m.

Beginnings

Gary was born in Bankstown and resided at Marsden Street, Georges Hall and by 1979 had began Speed skating. In 1987, Gary became a member of the Chullora Flyers Speed Skating Club and would win both indoor and outdoor sprint events in the State Titles.

Achievements

Gary represented Australia at the World Championships held in Cassano d'Adda, Italy in 1988 where he won a Bronze Medal and in the same year would re locate to Perth to train with the National Coach.

He represented NSW at the Australian Championships and obtained a Silver medal in the 500m outdoor held in Perth.

In the 1988 State and Nationals he became the record holder in the 300m time trial & 500m outdoor (recorded fastest times to date in Australia).
