Eugene Penna

Eugene achieved his sporting goal by 1981 when he was selected to represent Australia for the first time in Hong Kong. His national Representation in World Championships would continue on until 1987. During this period he won the National Championship in the 75-80KG Division Sparring Individual and the team event in 1986.

Beginnings

Eugene came to the district as a nine year old and lived in Bower Street, Bankstown and Marden Street, Georges Hall until 1985. He participated in State and National titles from 1980 to 1988.

Achievements

In 1981 Eugene represented Australia in the Hong Kong vs Australia Invitational Tournament in Hong Kong (and won all his bouts). He was awarded the Martial Arts Circuit Scholarship in 1983 for being the most consistent for the year. The prize was used for participation in the World Karate Championships in Holland where he represented Australia in 1984.

Post Representation

In 1987-1988 Eugene would lecture at Sydney TAFE and Cumberland College of Health Sciences on ‘Techniques to prepare for Competition'.
