Arthur Staples

In 1971 at seventeen years of age, Arthur had won not only the Junior State Championship but the Senior Title as well. In the following year, 1972 he won both the Junior (87KG) and Senior (100KG) Australian Titles. His career was cut short due to a work accident in 1984 but he continued to contribute to his sport as an official with NSW Wrestling Association.

Beginnings

Arthur was born and educated in the district. He resided in Horsley Road, Panania until he died in 1990 and was a member of the Bankstown Police Youth Club.

Achievements

Arthur represented Australia in the Brisbane Commonwealth Games in 1982.

Post Representation

On retirement he continued to contribute as an official of the NSW Wrestling Association.
