We have a number of planning documents to effectively manage our City in a way that promotes sustainable development and addresses community expectations.​​

Canterbury-Bankstown Local Environmental Plan 2023

The Canterbury-Bankstown Local Environmental Plan 2023 is Council's principal planning document to regulate effective and orderly development in our city. The LEP provides objectives, zones and development standards such as lot sizes, floor space ratios and building heights.

​Canterbury-Bankstown Development Control Plan 2023

The Canterbury-Bankstown Development Control Plan 2023 supports the LEP by providing additional objectives and development controls to enhance the function and appearance of development in our city. The development controls include storey limits, setbacks, urban design, amenity, landscaping, access and parking.

​Development Contributions

Development contributions are levied on new development in Canterbury-Bankstown to help fund the cost of providing additional or improved local public infrastructure needed by the new development. ​Planning Agreements

Planning agreements are contracts voluntarily entered into by Council and a developer in relation to certain planning proposals, development applications or complying development certificate applications. The planning agreement requires the developer to provide public benefits (such as land, a financial contribution, constructing infrastructure or other public facilities or services) to address the implications or merit of the development.

Canterbury-Bankstown Community Participation Plan

This Plan establishes how Council engages with the community in carrying out its land use planning functions such as the assessment and determination of development applications, planning proposals, development control plan amendments and contributions plans

Canterbury-Bankstown Contaminated Lands Policy

This Policy sets out the framework for the management of contaminated land. This Policy outlines how contaminated land issues are addressed by Council's planning and environmental decision-making processes.

​Canterbury-Bankstown Commercial Use of Footways Policy

This Policy provides a framework that enables the commercial use of public footways whilst addressing the requirements for public access and circulation. This Policy ensures a high standard for restaurants, cafes and businesses undertaking commercial street trading.

Canterbury-Bankstown Vehicular Footway Crossing Policy

This Policy sets out the requirements for the construction, widening, reconstruction and maintenance of vehicular crossings over public footways in our city.
