Mayor's Message

Dear resident

The smiling face that delivers Meals on Wheels.

The welcoming tutor who brings together a group of English learners.

The eagle-eyed protector looking after our bushland, pulling out weeds and encouraging native plants and animals.

All these people have something in common.

They are all volunteers.

Volunteers bring their knowledge, expertise or simply a friendly face to help others in our community. They make a difference in people’s lives.

Our Canterbury-Bankstown volunteers help us offer services, events and support. They help us build a stronger and more connected community.

Volunteering also gives something back to the volunteer. Many say it gives them a sense of purpose. It can help people feel engaged, happier and more confident.

I know this from my own experience.

I am a volunteer too. I love to support others, particularly younger and older people.

Volunteering also benefits me. It’s a great feeling knowing I have helped someone or simply brightened their day.
