Mayor's 24-Hour Challenge for Mental Health

We'll walk, run and unite to raise awareness and support for our community.

Mayor's 24-Hour Challenge for Mental Health

Join Mayor Bilal El-Hayek in a powerful movement to support mental health and create meaningful change.

The inaugural Mayor’s 24-Hour Challenge will test your resilience and promises to be an active, fun-filled event packed with entertainment, motivation and community spirit.

We’ll come together to walk or run around the athletics track – raising awareness and vital support for mental health. It’s nonstop movement, shared energy and a powerful show of community – symbolising strength through mental health challenges and the importance of connection, support and breaking the silence.

Every participant and team commits to raising funds for Charlotte's Wish Scholarships – a mental wellbeing program for youth, helping them develop the resilience and skills to overcome challenges and thrive.

Join the Challenge and let’s make a real difference together.

Participants of all skills and abilities are welcome to join for as long as they can, from a few hours to the full 24.

Spectators welcome.

When: Thursday 16-Friday 17 April, 8.30am start
Where: The Crest Athletics Track, 70 McClean Street, Georges Hall

This event is brought to you by Council's Active CB Team and proudly supported by Red Bull, Bankstown Sports Club, The Timing Guys and NOVOFIT.

Charlotte O’Brien, a 12‑year‑old who tragically died by suicide in September 2024 after experiencing ongoing bullying, had one powerful wish: “everybody matters, every day”.

Her parents, Mat Howard and Kelly O'Brien, are channelling their heartbreak into action by honouring Charlotte’s wish to raise awareness about bullying and advocate for youth mental health.

They've partnered with Step into Action Foundation to launch Charlotte's Wish Scholarships – providing youth with early wellbeing support to help them build resilience and skills to overcome challenges and thrive.

Every dollar raised from the Mayor's 24-hour Challenge event will go directly to fund Charlotte's Wish Scholarships.

Did you know, 75% of mental health conditions develop before age 25*?

According to new research from Headspace, nearly half (49%) of young Australians experience high or very high levels of psychological distress. The research also tells us there's hope. More than ever before, young people are willing to get help. Those who feel their mental health is improving say it's due to better access to support services, more awareness and reduced stigma.

Early wellbeing support can change lives.

Top Tips for a Successful Charlotte’s Wish Fundraiser
  • Kick things off yourself
Show others you’re committed to making a difference for Charlotte by making the first donation to your fundraiser.
  • Spread the word widely
Share your fundraising page with your family, friends, colleagues—anyone in your network. Encourage them to pass it on to help your message reach even more people.
  • Tell your story and your “why”
Let people know why supporting Charlotte’s Wish matters to you. Post your story on social media and remember to include your donation link so people can easily contribute.
  • Explain the impact
Help supporters understand exactly how their donation will support Charlotte’s Wish and the positive change it will create. Giving people a clear picture of the difference they’re making inspires generosity.
  • Keep everyone updated
Regularly share progress towards your fundraising goal. Celebrating milestones—big or small—can motivate others to join in and donate.
  • Show your appreciation
A simple “thank you” goes a long way. Publicly thank donors with posts or tags or send them a message directly. Including your fundraising link in these posts can also encourage others to get involved.
