Spring school holidays fun

Spring school holidays fun School children can Spring into fun these holidays, with an exciting line-up of activities, workshops and excursions planned in Canterbury-Bankstown. No

Council’s youth program, for 12 to 18-year olds, will kick-start the holidays:

  • A FREE treasure hunt at Belmore Youth Resource Centre on Tuesday 2 October (noon-4pm);
  • Volunteer work at Meals on Wheels at Greenacre Citizens Centre, on Thursday 4 October (10am-3pm);
  • Movie Marathon at Bankstown Hoyts Cinema on Friday 5 October (9.30am-4pm);
  • FREE Basketball at Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre on Monday 8 October (11.30am-4pm);
  • Bowling at AMF Villawood on Tuesday 9 October (11am-4pm);
  • A FREE Self-defence session at Belmore Youth Resource Centre on Wednesday 10 October (noon-4pm);
  • FREE Sk8er Skillz workshop at Carysfield Park, Johnston Road, Bass Hill, on Thursday 11 October (10am-4.30pm); and
  • A day trip to Jamberoo on Friday 12 October (8am-5pm)

Thirteen-year-old Mehul Fursule, who regularly hangs out at Belmore Youth Resource Centre, said he enjoyed the variety of fun activities that Council hosts.

"I really like the activities at the Belmore Youth Resource Centre because they’re fun," Mehul said.

With school holidays just around the corner, Mehul said he had to get his forms in soon so he wouldn’t miss out on taking part in the variety of activities on offer - especially the movie marathon.

Council’s Library and Knowledge Centres and Bankstown Arts Centre are other venues hosting:

  • Australian Native Wildlife will be running a FREE hands-on demonstration of native animals at Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre, on Wednesday 3 October (10am);
  • A FREE performance of Catrina’s Carnival, for children aged 6-8 years, will be held at Bankstown Arts Centre, on Wednesday 3 October (10.15am);
  • A FREE Croco-dials art workshop, for children aged 5-12 years, will be held at Campsie Library and Knowledge Centre, on Thursday 4 October (10.30am);
  • A FREE Arcade Afternoon will entertain kids aged 5-12 years for hours, at Greenacre Library and Knowledge Centre, on Monday 8 October (2.30pm);
  • Nature Wall Hanging Ceramic workshops at Bankstown Arts Centre, on Friday 5 and 12 October (10am-noon); and
  • A ‘spooktacular’ After Dark – Scary Night, featuring scary storytelling, games and craft activities, will be held at Padstow Library and Knowledge Centre, on Friday 19 October (5.30-7.30pm).

Also during the school holidays, from 1-12 October, the following schools will open their playgrounds, ovals and/or sports courts for public use:

  • Belmore South Public School, corner of Nelson Avenue and Canterbury Road, Belmore;
  • Condell Park Public School, Augusta Street, Bankstown; and
  • Undercliffe Public School, Bayview Avenue, Earlwood.
