New Riverwood Library and Knowledge Centre

New Riverwood Library and Knowledge Centre City of Canterbury Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour has invited residents to come and celebrate the
official opening of the new Riverwood Library and Community Hub tomorrow (12 December). No  

​City of Canterbury Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour has invited residents to come and celebrate the official opening of the new Riverwood Library and Community Hub tomorrow (12 December).

The new facility, worth approximately $3 million, boasts a range of exciting features, including:

  • Hearing loops;
  • An AV system;
  • Customisable function rooms with a kitchen;
  • Conference rooms equipped with smart screens;
  • A 24-hour book return chute;
  • A children’s area; and
  • Multiple computers and screens, in the Technology Hub.

Mayor Asfour said the official opening of the new facility, on the corner of Kentucky Road and Washington Avenue, Riverwood, will kick off from 10am.

“We’re really excited to unveil this facility,” Mayor Asfour said.

“Similar to our Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre, the Riverwood Library and Community Hub has a number of different spaces that can be hired out for a range of uses.

“And, of course, the library is bigger and better than ever.”

Starting with a smoking ceremony, the opening event promises to have something for everyone to enjoy, including:

  • Children’s reading and craft activities, including a design your own library bag workshop;
  • Roving characters;
  • Book giveaways;
  • Author talks;
  • Games;
  • Demonstrations of library services, including eResources and local history;
  • Live music; and
  • Morning tea, followed by a sausage sizzle lunch.

Mayor Asfour also reminded residents that Council has waived all overdue library fines until Sunday 30 June 2019.

“If you borrowed something from the old Riverwood Library and Knowledge Centre and it is overdue, please return it to our new facility, or another one of our nine Library and Knowledge Centres,” he said.

Riverwood Library and Community Hub will replace the existing Riverwood Library and Knowledge Centre, on the corner of Belmore Road and Roosevelt Avenue, Riverwood.
