The City of Canterbury Bankstown just got more comfortable, with 12 new moveable seats installed on the north side of Lakemba Railway Station.
Mayor Khal Asfour said the additional seating, which is part of a one-month trial, will indicate how commuters and visitors want to use the space.
"The seats will be moveable, so people can pick them up and arrange them how they wish when they are resting, reading or waiting for friends and colleagues," Mayor Asfour said.
"The trial will run until the end of this month prior to more permanent seating being established.
"Lakemba has been identified as a Priority Precinct by the NSW Government, which means it will be a busier place and upgrades are planned for the railway station.
"Our trial will better inform us on how this area is being used and we will endeavour to work closely with the Government to communicate this."
The 12 additional seats are among 850 across Canterbury-Bankstown, worth more than $2 million, and is an extension of a trial introduced in 2015 which also included the area outside the Bankstown Library Knowledge Centre. In some areas, giant chess and four-in-a-row games have also been installed.
Councillor Mohammad Huda has championed the expansion of the trial in Lakemba.
"Lakemba Railway Station is always bustling with activity, so we want to get the space right for our residents now and in the future," Clr Huda said.
