Million dollar makeover for Vale of Ah

After a setback last year due to local flooding, rehabilitation and renovation works to Vale of Ah has been completed, with five brand new sporting fields unveiled on Sunday.

Administrator, Richard Colley said more than $900k has been invested in the improvements, which included:

  • Reshaping of five new playing fields;
  • Construction of three new synthetic cricket pitches;
  • Renovations to the clubhouse;
  • Installation of new irrigation and drainage systems; and
  • Re-turfing of the fields

“We pride ourselves on delivering some of the best local sporting facilities in NSW, and Vale of Ah is no exception,” Mr Colley said.

“I am pleased to say that hundreds of active residents around the area can now start using this facility again, which is great for the winter sports that are about to begin.”

In the coming months, new field lights and fences will be installed, which will complete the last of the Vale of Ah upgrades.

In addition, Council will also plant a number of trees and plants to rejuvenate the area, after Council removed a couple of dead trees and noxious weeds that posed as a safety risk.

“Our residents deserve to enjoy state-of-the-art sporting fields, and I am glad that we could deliver this to them,” Mr Colley said.

The project, which was due to be completed mid last year, was stalled because of flash flooding.

“It was unfortunate the Vale of Ah field rehabilitation was affected, but we’re glad that we can now deliver this revamped sporting field, which our residents deserve,” Mr Colley said.

Other major projects scheduled include:

  • $2.5 million for the construction of a new community centre in Gazzard Park, Yagoona, is set to be completed in October;
  • $800k will be invested in stage 2 of the Lake Gillawarna Upgrade, that will include the restoration of the northern section of the lake and surrounds; and
  • The refurbishment of existing change rooms and amenities in O’Neil Park, Yagoona.
