Local Swim School breeds champions

Local Swim School breeds champions A group of elite swimmers who train at Canterbury-Bankstown’s Leisure and Aquatic Centres have dominated in the pool across the country. Yes

A group of elite swimmers who train at Canterbury-Bankstown’s Leisure and Aquatic Centres have dominated in the pool across the country.

The Harlee Elite squad members brought home 25 medals at the recent State NSW Summer Championships.

And now the call has gone out for more locals to join the CBSwim program, which is proving to be a breeding ground for future swimming champions.

Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour said our program has been preparing young stars since 2011.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for parents to enrol their children in CBSwim School to teach them basic water skills and you never know, it could lead to bigger and better things,” Mayor Asfour said.

“With a little help from our team of qualified swimming instructors, we might even see them compete in the Olympics one day!”

The impressive medal haul and overall team performance was achieved at the NSW Summer Championships and the National Open Water Championships in Adelaide.

Head Coach Alex Clarke said the team brought home eight gold, nine silver and eight bronze medals, as well as 30 top 10 performances in the state.

“I knew they would do well but their performance exceeded my expectations,” Mr Clarke said.

"And it was also fitting that we crowned three national champions in Adelaide and I’m looking forward to what they do in the future.”

Mr Clarke praised Council staff and said the amenities provided ensured his coaches and squad members enjoyed the best possible training conditions.

Many of the squad members learnt to swim in CBCity’s Swim School.

CBSwim School has restarted its programs with an amazing new look and it’s now even easier to enrol.

The new direct debit system allows parents to continue their enrolment until they decide to stop. This means there is no need to re-enrol each term, so no more lining up at the Swim School office.

For more information, visit cb.city/CBSwim or call your closest Leisure and Aquatic Centre.
