Recycle right and give your electronics a new life!

The City of Canterbury Bankstown is hosting another FREE e-waste collection on Saturday 11 November for residents to recycle any pesky old electronics cluttering their homes.

Unwanted e-waste can be safely disposed of at the Council Administration Building Carpark on Shakespeare Street, Campsie between 9am-3.30pm.

Canterbury Bankstown Mayor Bilal El-Hayek, said recycling broken or unwanted electronics at our drop-off event is a great way to help protect the environment.

“It is important to reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill for both the environment and our health,” Mayor El-Hayek said.

“I’m proud to know that each of our e-waste collections prevents almost 20 tonnes of precious materials from going to waste by giving them a new life.”

Some of the accepted items include:

  • TVs, consoles and modems;
  • Monitors, desktops and laptops;
  • Printers, scanners, faxes, photocopiers;
  • Small household appliances (fans, alarm clocks, vacuum cleaners);
  • Kitchen appliances (microwaves, kettles);
  • Hand tools; and
  • Cables, adapters and chargers.

Almost all of materials (98 per cent) disposed at Council’s e-waste collections are effectively recycled. Contractors remove any remaining personal data on devices before breaking them down into separate parts for repurposing.

Following the success of last week's Chemical CleanOut, the e-waste collection aims to help residents recycle right by offering a way to reduce contamination in their household bins.
