Residents will be able to watch how firefighters cut open a vehicle, see first aiders in action and encounter a surf lifesaving virtual reality demonstration at CBCity’s annual Community Safety Expo.

They will also have the opportunity to meet local safety and emergency services including police, firefighters, paramedics and SES volunteers to learn about their work to keep the community safe.

All the action is happening at Bankstown Central Shopping Centre on Saturday 7 October from 9.30am-4.30pm.

Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Bilal El-Hayek said the Safety Expo is a chance for residents to come along and say ‘hi’ and see exactly what emergency services are faced with.

“These selfless men and women put their lives on the line every time they go out on a job,” Mayor El-Hayek said.

“The information and advice at the Safety Expo could potentially save lives and prevent needless tragedies in our community.”

During the Expo, parents will have the opportunity to have their child seats safety-checked or professionally installed by an RMS-authorised inspector. Bookings are essential.

Mayor El-Hayek said all drivers are responsible for children aged under seven years and the onus is on them to ensure they have a suitable seat for their age and size.

“As a father myself, I know you can never be too careful – they’re too precious to make a simple mistake,” Mayor El-Hayek said.

“A properly fitted seat may well save your child’s life.”

The expo will feature live demonstrations and introduce locals to the first responders when emergencies occur, including NSW Fire and Rescue, NSW Police, NSW Ambulance, Surf Life Saving and State Emergency Services.

There will also be prizes and giveaways, and children will have the opportunity to sit in an emergency vehicle.
