Local children will have a super time during the school break thanks to the City of Canterbury Bankstown’s MARVELous Winter School Holiday Program.

Hours of entertainment will be had at the three free Comics Lab workshops held at Campsie Library on Tuesday (11 July, 1-5pm), Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre on Thursday (13 July, 1-3pm), and at Chester Hill Library and Knowledge Centre on Friday (14 July, 11am-2pm).

One of the artists teaching budding illustrators is Matthew Lin, who is the author of The Fish Boy and Squid Girl Chronicles comic, which featured at Supanova.

“What I like about them (comics) is they’re a crazy and quirky way to do storytelling,” Mr Lin said.

“Visual storytelling has always really appealed to me, even when I was younger I was drawn to the comic section in the newspaper.

“As a kid I used to draw all the superheroes in the Marvel and DC Universe by copying them from the collector cards my parents bought me. Ever since I can remember my favourites have always been Spiderman, The Avengers and Wolverine.”

At the workshops, Mr Lin will sketch a few characters and give tips on the industry and illustrating.
