Household Chemical CleanOut

Stop letting harmful products clutter up your garage. Keep your home and the community safe by bringing them to our next FREE Chemical CleanOut Day.

The City of Canterbury Bankstown is hosting a Chemical CleanOut Day on Sunday 29 October.

Residents are invited from 9.30am-3.30pm to drop off any dangerous items littering their homes at Council’s Campsie Customer Service Centre car park in Shakespeare Street, Campsie.

This includes household and pool chemicals, old paint tins, car batteries, gas cylinders, motor oils and more.

Any harmful products with toxic, corrosive, flammable or oxidising agent labels can also be disposed of for free at the CleanOut.

With three garbage trucks catching fire from incorrect bin use this year alone, Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Bilal El-Hayek is urging residents to recycle right and to safely dispose of chemicals.

“What you put in your bins can really affect the safety of our community and our drivers.

“Recent incidents with our garbage trucks catching fire remind us of how important it is to keep harmful chemicals and batteries out of our bins,” Mayor El-Hayek said.

“Our Chemical CleanOut Day is a great way to get rid of those harmful products whilst also keeping our community safe.”

The event is held twice a year through the NSW Environment Protection Authority to promote better recycling habits in the community.

During the last CleanOut event held earlier in the year, 715 attendees disposed of 34 tonnes of waste. With this event open to all NSW residents, it is expected this amount will increase this time around.

Residents are encouraged to take caution when transporting household chemicals and should not mix them or remove them from their original packaging. Residents are also advised to wrap chemicals in newspaper and place them in a container away from any passengers.
