Activefest: fun, fitness and laughter

Activefest: fun, fitness and laughter Our local primary school students had a fantastic time at Activefest! Yes Activefest: fun, fitness and laughter

Our local primary school students had a fantastic time at Activefest!

Canterbury-Bankstown Council partnered with the Office of Sport for the festival which saw 600 students from 15 schools take part in the sporting festival at Milperra’s Vale of Ah sporting fields.
Activefest offered the opportunity to showcase a wide range of sports, including Touch Football, Gymnastics, AFL, Rugby League, Cricket, Basketball and other sports the children might not have been exposed to.
It really was a “smorgasbord of sport” and the kids absolutely loved it!
It’s all about inspiring kids to join a team sport, get some essential exercise, make new friends and – most importantly – have a lot of fun.
While the event was open to any child that was interested in taking part, the target focus was children who may have never played a sport before.
Canterbury Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour said it was an incredibly successful festival and an exciting day for the kids.
“It’s fantastic to know that the kids had a great time. Many of the students don’t take part in sport on the weekends and many more were introduced to new sports for the first time ever. We hope we have sparked a passion for sport for hundreds of kids!” Mayor Asfour said.
“Instilling a love of sport in your child is important, as it helps build their self-esteem and benefits them in more ways than one. Of course, there are the health benefits but, beyond that, they’ll make new friends, learn new skills and look forward to every time they get to run onto a sporting field.”
At the end of the day, parents were given flyers with information about how to register for their child’s chosen sport. Registration is very easy, you just need to contact the sports organisation and sign up – either online or over the phone.
“I’d like to encourage parents to register your kids with the sport they liked the most, and remember, it’s also a memorable time for parents, losing your voice as you cheer and scream from the sidelines,” Mayor Asfour said.
Sports represented at Activefest included Cricket NSW, Touch NSW, Bankstown Jets Touch, AFL NSW, Bankstown Basketball, Canterbury District Football Assoc, Bulldogs Junior Rugby League, NRL, Bankstown District Amateur Football Assoc, Bankstown YMCA (gymnastics) and Macarthur Football Club.
