Active Canterbury-Bankstown, along with health and fitness partners, will be providing FREE classes for the entire month of April, as part of this year’s Seniors Festival.

Mayor Khal Asfour said all sessions are designed for residents, aged 55 years and over, to enjoy in a fun, social and inclusive environment.

"Our seniors continue to contribute to our community, so these extra classes are a small way of saying thank you for all they have done," Mayor Asfour said.

"It’s so important our seniors keep fit and healthy by doing activities they enjoy, so we’ve made sure to schedule something for everyone!"

The free April Active Canterbury-Bankstown sessions include:

  • High Intensity Interval Training Class at High Low Fitness Riverwood, every Tuesday, 8.30-9.30am;
  • Aqua Aerobics at Roselands Leisure and Aquatic Centre, every Tuesday, noon-1pm;
  • Zumba Gold at Crunch Fitness Bankstown, every Wednesday, 11am-noon; and
  • Fit N Strong at Canterbury Leisure and Aquatic Centre, every Friday, 7.30-8.30am.

The City of Canterbury Bankstown is also running low-cost sports days for seniors, including:

  • Golf at Sefton Golf Course, on Friday 6 April (starting 8am);
  • Tennis followed by a coaching workshop at Roger Bowman Tennis Centre, on Monday 9 April (starting 8.30am);
  • Free Badminton and table tennis followed by morning tea at Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre, on Tuesday 10 April (9.30am-11.30am); and
  • Social bowls at EBP Sports Club, on Thursday 19 April (starting 9am).

Mayor Asfour urged local seniors to register quickly for the activities they like.

"We’re urging all eligible Canterbury-Bankstown seniors to get involved, but places are limited and our events traditionally fill up very fast," Mayor Asfour said.

"I expect the same this year, with a spectacular lineup of activities."

For more information, or to register for any of the Active Canterbury-Bankstown events, call Council’s Recreation Officer on 9707 9236 or visit cb.city/seniorsfestival
