Our libraries are full of exciting collections and we encourage everyone to come and see for themselves. Take a look at the list and links below for an idea of what you will find,​ or alternatively, you can visit our online catalogue.

Please note that in addition to our collections, there are plenty of services, including photocopying, library services for children and youth, and the home library service.​

In our Library and Knowledge Centres

 

We have many resources available in our library and knowledge centres, including: 

  • ​Books
    There are hundreds of thousands of items available in our collection for readers of all ages. Just ask our helpful librarians about how to find items. Items include fiction (stories), non-fiction and all kinds of reference items.
  • Closed reserve

  • Community languages

  • Council Minutes

  • Drug information
    You can find information as well as a special scheme, providing up-to-date information on a state-wide level. It's calleddrug info @ your library.

  • DVD Collection
     DVDs for children, youth and adults are available for a one-week loan from all libraries. A maximum loan limit applies for each library member.

  • Family history/genealogy

  • HSC resources
    This material includes Excel study guides, DVDs , English literature notes, English and drama texts and author profiles. Current library membership is required to access some of this collection. Please ask library staff if you need assistance in locating this material.

  • Internet and PC access

  • Large print material
     The large print collection provides access to mostly adult reading material for members of the community with a visual disability. The material includes fiction and non-fiction titles which are shelved together alphabetically by author.

  • Legal information
    Find Legal Answers provides free access to legal information, including the Legal Toolkit and a selection of plain English books on the law, which we keep in our collection. Some of the information is available online from the Find Legal Answerswebsite.

  • Local history
    Our Local Studies collection is a specialised collection of material covering historic and current aspects of Canterbury-Bankstown.

  • Magazines
    We subscribe to a number of popular and specialist magazines. Popular magazines can be borrowed but the more technical and specialist periodicals are not for loan and are kept in the Reference Collection at each library.

  • Microfiche/microfilm

  • Music
    All libraries have CD music collections including children's, classical, country and western, jazz, pop, rock and world music.

  • Newspapers
    We have local, metropolitan and national newspapers. Current issues are available in print while some back issues are available on microfilm at Bankstown. We also keep a number of community language newspapers.

  • Photographic collection
    Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre has a collection of photographs depicting the history and development of Bankstown and suburbs. These photographs are located in the History@Bankstown library in the Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre. For more information, or to make an appointment to view photographs, contact 9707 9728.

  • Talking b​ooks
    The talking book collection provides access to written works on CD, and also serves to provide an accessible and easy introduction to other collections, for example, it may provide a stepping-stone to reading for a child with reading difficulties. We also have eAudio books in our online collection.
