Thinking Local Expressions of Interest

 Bankstown Arts Centre is seeking artists to explore the concept of Thinking Local to be showcased in July 2018.

Thinking Local follows on from the Arts Centre's successful 2017 project Grow: Places for People, where artists explored issues surrounding urban growth and presenting alternative solutions.

The Arts Centre continues to ask artists to examine the importance of our local neighbourhoods and the actions we take within them. Artists are encouraged to look at local spaces and actions, including permaculture and vegetable patches in backyards, community gardens, inclusive public spaces, local stories and significant sites.

How can artists highlight the significance of local actions that have a big impact on our lives? Artists' proposals may explore the concept of Thinking Local in relation to:

  • Canterbury-Bankstown;
  • Their local environment;
  • Community connections;
  • Our environment;
  • Sustainability; and
  • Food usage.

We're inviting proposals from artists, especially those who live and work in Western Sydney, who work in a range of media including, but not limited to:

  • Photography;
  • Painting;
  • Sculpture;
  • Installation;
  • New media; and
  • Mural painting.

The use of innovative materials, including those that are environmentally sustainable and eco-friendly, is encouraged where possible.

Up to two artists or artist groups will be chosen to develop new works, or adapt existing work, for one of two opportunities:

  1. Imagine Wall; and
  2. Window vitrines.

Your EOI must be submitted by Sunday 13 May, at midnight:
