​The City of Canterbury Bankstown is working with the Safer Speeds Program and Transport for NSW (TfNSW) to improve community safety within High Pedestrian Activity Areas (HPAA).
The Safer Speeds Program specifically targets High Pedestrian Activity and local areas where crashes occur, with funding introduced as part of the NSW Government’s commitment to reduce accidents on local roads. Works have commenced on Belmore Town Centre to improve pedestrian safety and create an updated streetscape.

Overview of Project

Belmore Town Centre will be upgraded in three stages, once completed the town centre will be revitalised to create a safe, liveable, and distinctive town centre for the community to enjoy.

Investing in our town centres is about revitalising and activating our main streets. For Belmore Town Centre, it’s about bringing new energy and excitement to the area.
The upgrades are essential for the safety of pedestrians.

  • Stage 1 – 29/09 to 29/10 
  • Stage 2 – 27/09 to 08/11 
  • Stage 3 – 27/09 to 05/11

 

 

Stage One

Location
From Burwood Rd at Station Rd to  Burwood Rd at Redman Pde, Belmore

Timing
Work will commence on Wednesday 29 September 2021 and is anticipated to be completed by Friday 29 October 2021 – weather permitting. Our work hours will be between 8.00 pm and 5.00 am (Monday to Friday), with the possibility of day works.

Details of Work Activities

  • New raised threshold flush to gutter
  • Reconstruction concrete pavement
  • Landscaping
  • Road furniture and pavement markings
  • Lighting work

How Work Will Affect You
Partial road and footpath closures are expected however, traffic controllers will be on-site to assist vehicles and pedestrians travel safely through the area. Work may be loud; however, every effort will be taken to ensure the noisiest works are completed by midnight. There will be no parking next to the work site.

Stage Two

Location
From Burwood Rd at Tobruk Ave to 454 Burwood Rd, Belmore

Timing
Work will commence on Wednesday 29 September 2021 and is anticipated to be completed by Monday 8 November 2021  – weather permitting. Our work hours will be between 8.00 pm and 5.00 am (Monday to Friday), with the possibility of day works.

Details of Work Activities

  • New raised threshold flush to gutter
  • Reconstruction road pavement
  • Construction of median islands
  • Road furniture and pavement markings
  • Concrete kerb ramp
  • Lighting works
  • Landscaping

How Work Will Affect You
Partial road and footpath closures are expected however, traffic controllers will be on-site to assist vehicles and pedestrians travel safely through the area. Work may be loud; however, every effort will be taken to ensure the noisiest works are completed by midnight. There will be no parking next to the work site.

Stage Three

Location
Bridge Rd, from Paragon Ln to 64 Bridge Rd, Belmore

Timing
Work will commence on Wednesday 29 September 2021 and is anticipated to be completed by Friday 5 November – weather permitting. Our work hours will be between 8.00 pm and 5.00 am (Monday to Friday), with the possibility of day works.

Details of Work Activities

  • New continuous footpath treatment
  • Reconstruction of asphalt pavement
  • Construction of new raised threshold
  • Road furniture and pavement markings

How Work Will Affect You

Work may be loud; however, every effort will be taken to ensure the noisiest works are completed by midnight. There will be no parking next to the work site.
