The City of Canterbury Bankstown offers our trainees, apprentices and g​raduates a dynamic work environment, on-going professional development, and a supportive on-the-job training as well as a competitive entry salary.

How do I apply?

These opportunities are advertised each year from 1 September in the local newspapers, the Sydney Morning Herald, www.seek.com.au​ and on ​Council's  Careers page.

Successful applicants will commence work in January of the following year.

Traineeship

As a trainee at Council, you will complete Certificate III (minimum) at TAFE in a related field to your work placement. This provides you with the theory to support your job. A traineeship lasts 12 months.

Traineeship checklist -

  • I've completed Year 12
  • I have a positive attitude
  • I'm motivated to succeed
  • I want to learn new skills and continually gain new knowledge
  • I enjoy interacting with others and working in a team
  • I've got good communication skills​

Apprenticeship

An apprenticeship lasts four years, during which time you will get hands-on experience with qualified tradespeople. You'll also receive formal off-the-job training at TAFE. At the end of the apprenticeship you will obtain a TAFE trade certificate IV in your chosen field.​

Graduate

As a graduate, you will have completed your tertiary education and looking for your first step in the workforce. A graduate role lasts 12 months.
