Unfortunately, fraud has been identified in the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan 2016-2019 as a priority area. Statistics from the New South Wales Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research show there has been an increase in fraud offences in Canterbury-Bankstown. It's important to understand more about it so you can protect yourself against it!

The most common types of fraud offences include:

  • Identity theft – using someone else's personal information to steal or gain financial benefits;
  • Credit card fraud – using someone else's credit card details to pay for goods or services; and
  • Failing to pay for fuel – filling up car with petrol and driving off without paying.

There are plenty of things that you can do, whether you're a victim or looking to protect yourself. There's lots of useful information online, courtesy of the NSW Police. They also have other links to useful organisations, too.
