​​Anyone can join one of Canterbury-Bankstown's library and knowledge centres free of charge, as long as you have the relevant current identification: 

  • ONE form of photo identification that shows your name and current address, for example a current NSW Driver's Licence or NSW Photo Card; or
  • TWO forms of identification, if you do not have photo identification, such as:​
    • a current Health Care Card;
    • a Council rates notice;
    • telephone, electricity, or gas bill no more than 3 months old; and/or 
    • Medicare or student card if the person applying is under 16 years old.​

There are a few different types of library membership.

Join online

Join your local library online and you will be able to reserve up to 5 'Available' items and 5 'On Loan' items. 

Points to note

  • Children under 16 years of age need to have a parent or guardian's signature.
  • Once you are a member, you can enjoy the full range of library services.
  • Library and knowledge centre members can borrow up to 25 items free of charge, including music CDs and DVDs. You can borrow DVDs and magazines for one week, and books and music CDs for three weeks. Items are also available digitally. You can renew your items twice. You can visit, phone the library, or go online to renew.
  • The Library and Knowledge Centre are free but charges will be applied if items are returned late.
  • The Library and Knowledge Centre ​provides free Wi-Fi, and various sessions and activities. A Home Library Service is available for housebound residents.
