Ron's Story

It's 2028 and so much has changed. I enjoy a much more flexible lifestyle and can get around more safely.

With such efficient means of transport, I like to change how I commute to work. Sometimes I cycle to work for fitness and other times I catch the train as the service is frequent.

For other trips it's not hard to grab a share car from one of the many hotspots around the City.

My mother moved in with us recently because she's too frail to live on her own, but a short stroll on the walkway with me to Roselands is nothing she can't handle. Everything is so accessible now. Lifts and ramps make everything easier.

I enjoy taking the grandkids for a bike ride and going for walks to the nearest reserves and local shops. New and improved walkways make it simple to get around the City safely with the little ones. My favourite is down at Gough Whitlam Park on the Cooks River Cycleway, where we hop on our bikes and get to enjoy a safe and scenic ride.

There are so many options now to stay in touch. My family and I just love how quick and easy it is to get around.

People said they want CBCity 2028 to be:

Invested in active transport, invested in good infrastructure and technology, easy to get around in, having better traffic management and parking solutions, accessible with transport, improved in its walking and cycling paths.

How we will get there

Council and Government will work together to:

  • Deliver improved and affordable public transport options catering to a variety of users
  • Create transport corridors that improve travel times and encourage public transport use
  • Advocate and plan for car and bicycle share schemes
  • Provide bicycle and pedestrian routes
  • Build and maintain local roads, car parks and traffic management devices
  • Promote and undertake road safety initiatives
  • Plan for safe, attractive transport hubs that support all modes of transport
  • Enable more journeys to be made without a car

What you can do:

  • Ride a bike for transport fun and health
  • Travel off peak
  • Walk or cycle those short journeys - don't drive
  • Try out the many local walking trails
  • Car pool or car share
  • Use 'on-demand' local buses
  • Think safe, travel safe - pedestrians, cyclists and drivers

Partner Organisations:

  • NSW Roads and Maritime Services
  • Transport for NSW
  • NSW Police Local Area Commands
  • Cycling groups
  • Bus providers
  • Council
  • Community groups, including community transport
