Brush-Tailed Possums

Brush-Tailed Possums
Brush-tailed possums are well adapted to living with people.

Brush-tailed possums are well adapted to living with people, and so are quite comfortable with making a home in the roof of your house! In NSW you need to apply for a licence from the National Parks and Wildlife Service to trap and remove a possum from your roof. You cannot release the possum away from your property because it will not survive and another possum will simply take its place. Instead, build your possum a shelter to give it a safe home and keep it out of your roof cavity.

More information

NSW National Parks has a fact sheet on the Brush-tailed possum with information on removing a possum from your roof and a guide to making a possum house that can be found on the NSW Government website.
