Stallholder Call-out! Deadline Midnight 23 June 2019.

The Art Market - Saturday 27 July 2019 

Bankstown Arts Centre is seeking expressions of interest from artists, designers and craftspeople who want to be part of the inaugural Bankstown Arts Centre Art Market. This exciting event will take place on Saturday the 27th of July alongside the yearly Bankstown Bites Food Festival and will provide an opportunity for Artists to sell their work directly to the local community.

To apply, please send an email to artscentre@cbcity.nsw.gov.au with the subject heading THE ART MARKET containing the following:

  1. A current CV outlining your artistic experience
  2. 5 x images of your art/designs/clothes/jewellery/craft which you would be looking to sell at the Art Market. If your art is yet to be made, images of previous works can be submitted to give us a better understanding of your practice.
  3. A short description about your art practice and what you are hoping to sell.

Artists for THE ART MARKET will be selected on the quality of their submission.

The Art Market Policy

Bankstown Arts Centre welcomes groups and individuals to sell their artworks/ designs/ zines/ clothes/ objects at THE ART MARKET. This policy outlines the terms and conditions under which stallholders are accepted.

Bankstown Arts Centre provides stalls at THE ART MARKET for use as a free market stall and encourages innovative and contemporary forms of art and cultural expression by emerging and established artists based in Canterbury-Bankstown and further afield. THE ART MARKET will be located in the foyer and forecourt of Bankstown Arts Centre, 5 Olympic Parade Bankstown. The gallery provides one stall table and 2 x chairs.

Criteria

The following criteria will apply for eligibility to participate in THE ART MARKET:

  • Individual artists who are a resident in Canterbury-Bankstown;
  • Artists who live outside the local government area, if there is a benefit to the artistic and cultural life of Canterbury-Bankstown area.

NOTE: Although market stalls will be determined by the individual artist, Council reserves the right to approve or reject applications, based upon criteria such as available space, alignment with the Arts Centres core values and vision. Council will not approve any stallholders which are discriminatory, defamatory, which promote racial, gender, or religious vilification, or which in any way may harass or offend other persons.

Stallholders will be given use of the market stall free of charge, but will be responsible for all aspects of the exhibition including insurance of the stall materials if required.

The Arts Centre will not be involved with the transaction of money and hence will not be taking any commission from stallholders. All tables will be free to hire.

Conditions of Use 

Advertising 

You will need to give permission for artwork images, photographs or film/ video to be used by the City of Canterbury Bankstown for publicity purposes. 

Photography 

You are required to give permission to be photographed or filmed during the course of THE ART MARKET

Approval

Approval as a stallholder does not constitute an endorsement by the Council of the stallholder's policies or beliefs. 

Setting-Up and Dismantling

It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to assist with the setup and dismantle the display on the dates and at the times agreed upon. If Council staff are required to set-up and /or dismantle a stall without the stallholder present, they will not be held liable for any loss or damage. More information about set-up will be conveyed after the selection process.

Selling your art

Bankstown Arts Centre is a public institution, not a commercial gallery. No commission is taken on works sold and all sale proceeds go directly to the stallholders. Please note that arrangements for the sale of artworks, including the collection and distribution of sold artworks are the sole responsibility of the artist. Council staff members do not take payments (including deposits).
