Jixian is an 85 year old Chinese artist living in Milperra.

He mostly specialises in oil paintings, influenced by and combining both Chinese and Western artistic traditions. Graduating from the China Central Academy of Fine Arts (Beijing) in 1953, he has had 60 years of experience in the Visual Arts.

From 1953 to 1993, he worked in the Beijing Film Studio as an art director/designer on numerous films and television series, namely The Last Emperor (1987).

Upon retirement, he has concentrated his focus on the Fine Arts. His initial inspiration came from historical Chinese frescos such as the depiction of Goddesses. Later on he started to express this heritage in the form of oil painting, simultaneously embracing Western artistic practices.

He first came to Australia in 2002, having an art exhibition in the Chinese Cultural Centre, Chatswood in 2006, the other being in Beijing, 2004.

He is currently a member of the Bankstown Art Society and the Chinese Film Association.

Now Jixian mainly creates oil paintings combining both the traditions and influences of Eastern and Western art.
